album cover and website

This is our album cover for our song. The picture shows a persons head that is made of a mixture of different tablets taking a tablet. We used this image as it fell in perfectly with our idea. We used Adobe Photoshop to edit the orginal picture which was colourful we changed the colour to a charcoal smudged effect becuase we wanted to create the idea of dizzyness when people saw the cover.

The two examples below are taking for past Queens of the stone age albums as you can see they a plain and simple. We had this in mind when we made our cover so if the bands album covers were put together they would fit and blend together well. The only obvious difference is that their album covers are colourful they have used bold colours like RED and BLUE to make they ablum stand out from all the other thousands on the shops shelves. Whereas our cover is BLACK and GREY.

Popular album cover examples- All these album covers are striking in their own sence the album cover taken from rage against the machine's first album shows a photo of Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, burning himself to death i don't think there is any other album cover in thwe world thats more applealing and eye catching that that. The bottom cover is Kings of Leons only by the night this cover is very cleverly made .The picture has a quater of each the band members face then they are each split by a pair of eagles eyes to make one single face another example of a STAND OUT STRIKING piece of album art.

Locations,ideas and filming

We decided to film all of our music video in castor and ailsworth as its where we both live so filming would be very easy and also convenient. This would also save lots of time because we don't half to travel anywhere to different locations that could be time and cost consuming. Since we live in the place were we are filming we know lots of different possible parts of the village are good to film in such as places where not many people go or where not much traffic go through this will help so we don't keep being interupted.

We did some research into our songs lyrics and we found that the song is about drug taking so we made this the base of our video. We incorparated drug taking in the video then after that scene we just showed the effects of the "drugs" on film. We also wanted to have a mixture of different shots and angles to make the music video more attractive to the eye.

We used a wide range of different shots close- ups were used throughout the video to show the more impiortant parts of it a prime example would be the drug taking and also drinking a shot of vodka. The first shot that we thought would look particularly good and also professional. We wanted the start of the video to be interesting and different to keep the viewer wanting more. We got the basic idea from the White Stripes the Hardest Button to Button. In the video the drummer hits a drum and skips position whilst leaving drumkit in the previous position. In the video The White Stripes used as many as 80 identical bass drums and Fender guitar amps were used in the video becuase we do not have the resources or money to duplicate this we moved the guitar and the drum kit to every drum beat instead of leaving the set in one place so we got the effect of the "moving drum kit".

First day of filming-Today we had a 4 hour filming session (hour set up, 3 hour filming) followed by an hour and a half editing job, from this we achieved 14 seconds to our final product This part we filmed today would be the start of our video. We attempted to recreate the effect shown in the White Stripes - The Hardest Button To Button, we set up the camera and left it in one position. We then recorded as we performed 1 beat on the drum and guitar, then moved the set forward about a metre then we did this 15 times over we often did each shot for around 5 seconds so after filming was complete we had more footage to play we so we could pick and choose thew best parts. After filming Oliver edited each beat together using an Apple programme called iMovie 08, after putting all the footage together we got tghe effect we aimed for so this was a very sucessful dasy of filming as it formed the base of our music video . This technique is very effective but extremely time consuming as for 3 hours filming we only had 14 seconds to show for it. We considered don't this effect for the whole siong we realised from this filming session that it would be far too time consuming and also we thoughout the same effect would get boring for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Second day of Filming-In our second filming session we began to work on our main idea which is drugs . We did this by having a shot of Myself taking some pills which were non harmless vitamin pills and a shot of vodka the vodka being water. We took this shot in 4 different angles: a POV shot, a close up shot, a mid shot and a track shot. We did this so we had more footage the edit and work with. After we had completed this planned scene, we began to experiment with a variety of possible shots including a POV scene of myself waking up putting my clothes on and going downstairs, a Tracking scene of myself doing the same thing (waking up and going downstairs). After that filming in that location was complete we went to the local park and experimented with some POV shots that could be used to imply the effects of drugs like dizzyness and the ability to walk straight. After we completed filming oliver edited the footage on iMovie and had a play around with it from this he found a great effect which is a colour filter that looked really effective as many different colours could be used thefrefore giving the people who would be be watching the video the drug effect. The 4 different shots of Myself drinking the Vodka also worked well as we used different angles to blend it together it worked well as one smooth sequence.

Third Day of Filming
we started to film for our chorus today as we didn't use the Drum Kit as its far too time consuming we felt that it will make the filming process a lot easier if we just used the guitar. We kept the viewers interested by using a varied range of different backgrounds.
Location
The location for this scene is in ailsworth, a short drive from where myself and Oliver live, this is easy as we can spend less time traveling, more time setting-up and getting more footage to play with when it comes to the editing part or the process.

The Filming
After the record button was onOliver directed me to run around the field an play the guitar in a different place in the field for about 5 seconds. We repeated this around 30 times aganist so there was loads of footage so we could pick and choose the best shots.

Fourth Day of filming

This was a late night filming session we got out at around 11 pm we needed the effects of the street lights to gain the effect we wanted. We used a varied range of different shots again to carry on the effect we were using throughout our video. A range of mid-shots,long shots and also at the end of the video a point of view shot is used just to give variation. It was a great time to film this part of the video as we were able to use the road to film as there wasn't any cars going through the village that would disturb us. The camera was handheld by Oliver all the way through this sesion as we had to give the tripod to manother group but it didn't really effect our footage as we got done what we wanted to.We did all the filming on peterborugh road using lamposts, the local shop and the road itself to get footage from then they would be blended for each.

Fifth day of filming

This was our final day of filming this session was bascially getting shots to break up the song inbetween the chorus. After showing a draft version of our video to our teacher he told us to add in a shot of myself buming into someone in the street to show the effects of the drugs. Therefore we gained the help of a friend of ours to appear in the scene as there was only two of us we needed an extra person. All the shots done on this day were POV shots so no time was wasted setting things up such as tri pods etc as the camera was hand held. Again we used the village to film because we felt that we had done all the other footage here so what not finish it here? During the editing oliver used colour to show the effects of the drugs and the dizzyness. I also wobbled the camera to make the "drug effect" more obvious.
